MICHAEL SHIVERDECKER
MICHAEL SHIVERDECKER is in his 2nd year as the Associate Director of Bands at Summerville High School.
and in his third year as a part of the Dorchester District Two fine arts team. He manages and teaches the Summerville Competitive Performance Ensemble and conducts the concert band. In addition, he assists with the symphonic band, wind ensemble and various chamber ensembles. Prior to his appointment at Summerville high School, Michael spent two years teaching at Gregg Middle School. with Susan Bocook. During his time there, the band program grew to over 300 hundred members and consistently earned high marks at both state and regional festivals.
After a number of successful years in the automotive industry, Michael relocated to the Summerville area in the fall of 2011. After establishing himself in the area, he oversaw a private woodwind studio of 40+ students, with students earning chairs in both the South Carolina All-state and Region bands.
Along with private teaching, he has traveled throughout the country as a clinician with numerous marching bands and indoor percussion ensembles.
As an oboist, Michael has had the pleasure of performing with the Palmetto Concert Band, Poinsett Wind Symphony, North Charleston Pops! and is a founding board member of the Charleston Wind Symphony. His primary teachers include Kari Kistler, Rebecca Nagel, Russ Deluna, Pat George and the late Bruce Dinkins. Professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, the International Double Reed Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Michael currently resides in Summerville with his beautiful wife, Jennifer and their cats, Hazy and Leo.
