ALLISON WHISNANT
Allison Whisnant is currently in her third year as band director at DuBose Middle School. She obtained her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music Education from Florida State University where she is also an active writer and researcher. While at USC, Ms. Whisnant studied horn under Professor JD Shaw and participated in various ensembles including the Symphonic Winds, Broken Fifths Wind Quintet, and the University of South Carolina Marching Band. She has served in various leadership positions, taught masterclasses in the Columbia and Charleston area, and assisted with the Congaree New Horizons Band as a private lessons instructor and ensemble director.
Ms. Whisnant is also a graduate from the USC CERRA Teaching Fellows Program and successfully completed Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement. She is also a recipient of the Robert J. Vandoren Outstanding Senior in Music Education Award, the highest honor for a music education student at the University of South Carolina. Her other professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Association for Music Education, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association.
The DuBose Band Program under Ms. Whisnant’s direction has received numerous awards including superior ratings at state and regional festivals and the prestigious Outstanding Performance Award in 2019. She is also an assistant with the award-winning Summerville High School Competitive Performance Ensemble and remains an active performer with the Charleston Wind Symphony and the Summerville Orchestra. She currently lives in Summerville, SC with her puppies, Vader and Cali.
