CONCERT AND SYMPHONIC BANDS
The foundation of the wind and percussion experience at Summerville High School is established in our concert, symphonic band, and percussion ensemble classes. These classes meet all year as a regular part of the school day. It is in these settings that music principles and fundamentals are taught, practiced, and developed. It is for this reason that students who wish to participate in all other aspects of the band program are required to participate in the appropriate class.
The Symphonic Bands are made up of students performing grade V and VI literature.
The Concert Bands are made up of students performing grade III and IV literature.
ALL CONCERT BAND AND PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE CLASSES REQUIRE AFTER-SCHOOL REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES AS PART OF THE GRADE FOR THE CLASS.
AFTER MARCHING SEASON:
Concert Band Rehearses from 4:15-6:15pm on Thursdays
Symphonic Band Rehearses from 4:15-6:15pm on Tuesdays
CONCERT DRESS
An audience experiences a concert on many different levels, not all of which are musical. It is an undeniable fact that the appearance of a performing group has a significant impact on the audience's perception of that group. To enhance the uniqueness of the performing experience, the following guidelines have been established:
Dresses: We wear the same full-length black dresses ordered from Cousin's Formal Wear. Students are responsible for purchasing and correctly altering these dresses to fit properly. Click HERE to be taken to the correct dress, style #115. ALL DRESSES MUST BE BLACK.
Tuxedos: Students are responsible for the purchase of their tuxedos. They may be purchased from any source, providing they meet the following guidelines:
-
black, standard cut only. NO colors or textures.
-
white tuxedo shirt, wing tip collar.
-
black or silver studs/cufflinks (if used)
-
no tails for students
-
black bowties and cummerbunds only. Solid texture only.
