Leslie Gilreath has been the Director of Bands at Summerville High School since 2001. A 1990 graduate of Furman University, he holds a Bachelors degree in Music Theory. A composition student of Jay Bocook, Michael Hennagin, and Carolyn Bremer, he is currently the owner of NightMusik.com, LLC, a publishing company for marching show productions. Mr. Gilreath was the 2011 Summerville High School Teacher of the Year and a Dorchester District Two Honor Teacher of the Year. He has received Citations of Excellence and Marching Excellence from the National Band Association as well as National Board Certification and is a member if Phi Beta Mu, a national bandmaster’s fraternity. He also currently serves on the SCBDA Marching Committee. He is a native of Anderson, South Carolina and a 1985 graduate of Pendleton High School. During his tenure, the Summerville Band was the 2004 SC 5-A Marching Champion, The 2005 Lower State Champion and Silver Medalist, the 2006 Bronze Medalist, 2007 Silver Medalist, and the 2010 Bronze Medalist. They have been a Bands of America Regional and Super Regional Finalist, and the Summerville Symphonic Band was featured at the 2007 SCMEA, MENC Southern Division Convention in Charleston, SC with Mr. Gilreath, Ms. Sue Alexander, and James A. “Gus” Moody at the podium. The Summerville Winter Guard has won 12 State Champion titles, and they have been finalists at both WGI Regionals and were a 2011 WGI World Finalist in Dayton, OH.
